Driver Intervention Program: Court-Referred Driver Education
We are State Certified by the Ohio Mental Health and Addiction Services and the Ohio Department of Public Safety to serve all courts in Ohio. We currently have been used by 51 Ohio and surrounding state Municipal Courts and over 250 OVI attorneys.

The 72-Hour Driver Intervention Program (DIP) is a residential program for OVI offenders administered through Substance Abuse Prevention Institute (SAPI). The program educates individuals about the physical, psychological and social effects of alcohol and drug use and is designed to reduce the risk of future alcohol and drug abuse arrests. The program is certified by the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (OMHAS).

We offer a 72 Hour, 48 Hour, and 13 Hour program during each scheduled weekend program. 8 Hour Adult Remedial Driving Course is available at certain locations.

The 72 Hour Driver Intervention program gives individuals an opportunity to examine thinking and behavioral patterns that led to their OVI arrest. It provides participants with the knowledge they need to make healthy future choices and with information on alcohol and drug abuse through lectures, videos, class work and group discussions.

Frequently Asked Quesions
What should I wear?
Dress in comfortable, but appropriate, attire. No tank tops or halter tops, drug or alcohol related clothing or hats are allowed.

Can I bring snacks?
We recommend you bring your own snacks and beverages in original sealed containers. You will be able to purchase snacks and beverages at the hotel.

Is smoking allowed?
Yes, smoking is allowed in designated areas only. There is no smoking in hotel rooms. If you are caught smoking in your hotel room, you will be dismissed from the program immediately.

Can I bring medications?
All prescription and over-the-counter medications must be in original containers. Only bring enough medications for the weekend. Your medications will be checked-in and held in a lock box during your stay.

Is the DIP like jail?
No, a DIP isn't like jail. Ohio's drunk driving law is a tough one though, and because we know this has been a difficult time for you, we make sure our program is not like jail. SAPI will ensure you are treated as a "client" of the program, not a criminal. This means you'll be treated with dignity and respect by all staff members.

Why should I attend this program? I'm not an alcoholic!
SAPI is not a rehabilitation program. We don't label our clients or assume that they have drinking problems. SAPI is for people who are in trouble with the law because of alcohol or other drugs. Part of your weekend will be spent in movies and lectures that will provide information with which you can make more informed decisions about drinking and use of drugs. You'll also spend some time in small group discussions and individual consultation with our professional staff for a screening, and possibly assessment. These professionals will assist you in developing a plan that will help you stay out of trouble in the future. We provide some quiet time for rest and personal reflection as well.

Who will know I attend the DIP and what happened there?

SAPI will only release information about you after receiving your permission in writing. We take our clients' confidentiality and privacy very seriously. In fact, we are even bound by federal and state laws to protect it. However, we are not responsible for any breach that takes place in a public area at the hotel location. All clients are aware of the use of cellphone policy during the program and we are not responsible if a client breaks your confidentiality.

Is SAPI certified?
Yes. SAPI is certified by the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services and The Ohio Department of Public Safety. As a certified program, SAPI conforms to all appropriate state regulations.

Hear What Our Past Students Have To Say About Us 😀

"At first I was just ready to get it done and over with. But the staff members were friendly and made it enjoyable. It was educational and being able to interact with groups made it a great experience. I took away a lot in just three days and definitely am making goals and better choices for a better life!"

Springfield, Ohio
"I was expecting to come in here and have a horrible weekend! But nothing about this experience was horrible at all! Pam, Tracie, Eric, Sue and Katie are all awesome understanding people! I am very glad that I picked this program for my 72 hour classes. I couldn't have asked for a better way to do this program. It's very well thought out and it's what I needed to hear. I enjoyed my whole weekend and I HIGHLY suggest this program."

"I was skeptical about coming at first but I'm happy I did. Staff was real good at explaining things. I appreciate the new things that we learned as far as laws and DUI explanation. I definitely recommend this class."
